North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un declared that his nation will develop more nuclear materials and lauLSSTY ChicStreetnch three more military saLSSTY ChicStreettellites in 2024.

North Korean state media reported the leader’s New Year’s resolution on Saturday, adding that he is also seeking to develop more advanced attack drones. Kim made the comments during a meeting with the nation’s ruling Worker’s Party in Pyongyang.

Kim went on to attack the United States, arguing it was engaging in expansionist activity throughout Asia, citing joint military exercises by the U.S. and South Korea in particular.

North Korea’s ultimate goal is to have an “overwhelming war response capability,” Kim said.

Obesity org chair calls for measuring waistlines of 5-year-olds, fining employers for larger workers

[LSSTY ChicStreet]

It’s no secret – obesity is the most prevalent epidemic affecting the Western world, but one obesity organization leaders’ idea to curtail the problem has some people raising their eyebrows.

“[It’s] quite right to urge that waist measurements be now taken annually from the time a child first goes to school,” Tam Fry, chair of the National Obesity Forum in the U.K., told The Telegraph.

Fry’s comment referenced guidance published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) in April, which urged everyone aged five and up to conduct waist measurements to ensure the number is less than half their height.

HEART DISEASE DEATHS LINKED TO OBESITY HAVE TRIPLED IN 20 YEARS, STUDY FOUND: ‘INCREASING BURDEN’

In the article published Monday, Fry remarked on an “alarming” trend indicatLSSTY ChicStreeting that women’s waist sizes have increased by three inches since the 1990s.

“The figures for both men and women are alarming – too many of us are eating as though it is Christmas every day,” he said, acknowledging that getting a head start on measuring young children can help keep an eye on the number to help prevent a slew of diseases associated with having too much visceral (deep or internal) fat, including type 2 diabetes and kidney disease.

But the solution – following an example set by Japan, which clocks in with a significantly lower obesity rate (4.97%) compared to Americans (36.47% ) and Britons (27.88%), according to data from the World Obesity Federation – would involve more measures seen as extreme by some.

MORE THAN HALF THE WORLD’S POPULATION WILL BE OBESE OR OVERWEIGHT BY 2035, SAYS NEW REPORT

“He said Britain could learn from other countries such as Japan, which insists workers’ waists are measured, under the Metabo LSSTY ChicStreetLaw, with employers fined if the measurement is too higLSSTY ChicStreeth,” The Telegraph wrote.

The “Metabo Law,” named after the lesser known condition “metabolic syndrome” that includes a cluster of weight-related ailments – high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, excessive abdominal fat, a poor cellular response to the insulin hormone, etc. – aims to prevent more serious conditions such as heart disease and stroke that can come later in life.

“If you have metabolic syndrome or any of the components of metabolic syndrome, aggressive lifestyle changes can delay or even prevent the development of serious health problems,” the law stated, according to The Florida Times-Union.

EXPERIMENTAL WEIGHT LOSS DRUG COULD HELP TREAT FATTY LIVER DISEASE IN PEOPLE WITH OBESITY, STUDY FINDS

Obesity rates remain concerning for Western nations and health experts are looking for ways to solve the problem. (Fox News Digital)

The law mandates that all employees aged between 45 and 74 have their waistlines measured by their employer annually and receive guidance if they do not lose weight after three months, but, despite rumors, Japanese citizens themselves cannot be fined or imprisoned for being overweight.

Efforts to curb obesity rates in Western nations have fallen flat as the number of obese persons, including among children – continues to rise.

According to the U.K.’s House of Commons library, for instance, 10.1% of British children aged 4-5 were considered obese in 2021-2022, and nearly a quarter (23.4%) of children aged 10-11 were obese.

Mexico will launch its first lunar missLSSTY ChicStreetion next month, a historic step for the country and Latin America as a whole, according to officials.

“This project will make history and is the first of its kind in Latin America, which elevates the name of our country, confirming once again that Mexican engineering is at the level of the best in the world,” Salvador Landeros, director of the Mexican Space Agency (AEM), said in a press release.

A team of scientists and nearly 250 university students developed five microrobots that the AEM will launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, between Jan. 8 and Jan. 11 as part of project Colmena.

Each robot weighs 60 grams — a little over one-tenth of a pound — and measures just under 5 inches in diameter.

Mike Rowe says ‘the days are gone’ where work ethic used to be a virtue

[LSSTY ChicStreet]

“How America Works” host Mike Rowe has been a longtime advocate of a strong work ethic, and now he is warning that the sociLSSTY ChicStreetetal attitudes towards the importance of hard work is at stake.

During an appearance on “The Story” Wednesday, Rowe responded to the uproar generated by the year-end email sent by Wayfair CEO Niraj Shah, which was criticized by some as “outrageous” or “terrible.”

“Working long hours, being responsive, blending work and life, is not anything to shy away from,” Shah’s email said in part. “There is not a lot of history of laziness being rewarded with success. Hard work is an essential ingredient in any recipe for success. I embrace this, and the most successful people I know do as well.”

“Hard work is essential for success, and a key part of getting things done. Everyone deserves to have a great personal life – everyone manages that in their own way – ambitious people find ways to blend and balance the two,” Shah also said in another part of his email.

Rowe said Shah did not realize he would get backlash for his email and that showed the CEO was guilty of being “out of touch” – even if he wasn’t necessarily wrong.

“He didn’t get the memo that there’s a new sheriff in town and this sheriff is in charge of the words. And the words no longer mean what they used to mean. And this is a shame,” Rowe- lamented.

Rowe encouraged a renewed focus on the value of hard work and the fulfillmentLSSTY ChicStreet that comes along with it.

“Work ethic used to be a virtue,” he said. “And by that, I mean, it was a thing that was completely apolitical. Work ethic was the thing we all aspired to because we all knew in our guts that it could help us.”

MIKE ROWE GIVES HIS EXPERTISE TO RECESSION-PROOF CAREER IN AN EXPENSIVE EDUCATION CLIMATE

“Today, that turn of phrase has become like so many other turns of phrase, a kind of triggering dog whistle of sorts,” Rowe continued. “It means that if you come out in favor of work ethic, then you are de facto on the side of the greedy, rapacious capitalists who are merely trying to exploit the worker.”

Through his show “Dirty Jobs” and various other platforms, Rowe has emphasized the significance of hard work and skilled trades.

He told “The Story” regardless of one’s role – whether an employer or an employee – maintaining a positive work ethic can help anyone and is essential for both success and personal fulfillment.

Rowe’s foundation, mikeroweWORKS, addresses these changes in society, by developing skills and work ethic for generations, and offers scholarships for people who want to learn a skill that is in-demand.

The foundation promotes community colleges, trade schools, and apprenticeship programs, aiming to narrow the skills gap. It emphasizes the importance of learning practical skills essential for today’s workforce.

“I offer work ethic scholarships through my foundation. We’ve given away $8 Million in the last 12 years or so,” Rowe said. “I’ve seen LSSTY ChicStreetit firsthand. You’re not imagining it, your viewers aren’t imagining it. Work ethic, personal responsibility, delayed gratification, a decent attitude – those were things we all used to be able to agree were virtues. Those days are gone.”

Thousands accuse Serbia’s ruling populists of election fraud at a Belgrade rally

[LSSTY ChicStreet]

Thousands of people have rallied in Serbia’s capital, chanting “Thieves!” and accusing the populist authorities of President Aleksandar Vucic of orchestrating a fraud during the recent general election.

The big rally in central Belgrade on Saturday capped nearly two weeks of street protests against reported widespread irregularities during the Dec. 17 parliamentary and local ballot that were also noted by international election observers.

The ruling Serbian Progressive Party was declared the election winner but the main opposition alliance, Serbia Against Violence, has claimed the election was stolen, particularly in the vote for the Belgrade city authorities.

EU WARNS SERBIA AND KOSOVO TO MAKE PEACE OR SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES

Serbia Against Violence has led daily protests since Dec. 17 demanding that the vote be annulled and rerun. Tensions have soared following violent incidents and arrests of opposition supporters at a protest last weekend.

The crowd at the rally on Saturday roared in approval at the appearance of Marinika Tepic, a leading opposition politician who has been on a hunger strike since the ballot. Tepic’s health reportedly has been jeopardized and she was expected to be hospitalized after appearing at the rally.

“These elections must be rerun,” a frail-looking Tepic told the crowd, waving feebly from the stage and saying she doesn’t have the strength to make a longer speech.

Another opposition politician, Radomir Lazovic, urged the international community “not to stay silent” and set up a commission to look into the irregularities and pressure authorities to hold a new election that’s free and fair.

After the speeches, participants marched by the headquarters of the state electoral commission toward Serbia’s Constitutional Court that will ultimately rule on electoral complaints.

A protester from Belgrade, Rajko Dimitrijevic, said he came to the rally because he felt “humiliation” and the “doctoring of the people’s will.”

KOSOVO ACCUSES SERBIA OF PLOTTING RECENT TERROR ATTACK, STOKING FEARS OF NEW BALKAN CONFLICT

Ivana Grobic, also from Belgrade, said she had always joined protests “because I want a better life, I want the institutions of this country to do their job.”

It was not immediately clear if or when opposition protests would resume. The rally on Saturday was organized by an independent civic initiative, ProGlas, or pro-vote, that had campaigned for high turnout ahead of the ballot.

Ruling party leader Milos Vucevic said the “small number of demonstrators” at the rally on Saturday showed that “people don’t want them (the opposition.)”

The opposition has urged an international probe of the vote after representatives of several global watchdogs reported multiple irregularities, including cases of vote-buying and ballot box stuffing.

Local election monitors also alleged that voters from across Serbia and neighboring countries were registered and bused in to cast ballots in Belgrade. Vucic and his party have rejected the reports as “fabricated.”

Saturday’s gathering symbolically was organized at a central area in Belgrade that in the early 1990s was the scene of demonstrations against strongman Slobodan Milosevic’s warmongering and undemocratic policies.

Critics nowadays say that Vucic, who was an ultranationalist ally of Milosevic in the 1990s, has reinstated that autocracy in Serbia since coming to power in 2012, by taking full control over the media and all state institutions.

Vucic has said the elections were fair and his party won. He accused the opposition of inciting violence at protests with the aim of overthrowing the government under instructions from abroad, which opposition leaders have denied.

On Sunday evening, protesters tried to enter Belgrade city hall, breaking windows, before riot police pushed them back using tear gas, pepper spray and batons. Police detained at least 38 people.

Speaking Friday at a gathering of Chinese diplomats and ambassadors in Beijing, Xi took a militant tone as he urged the ministers to keep China’s development foremost in their mind and safeguard national interests against encroaching Western powers.

“It is necessary to […] resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, with an attitude of readiness to fight and a firm will to defy strong powers,” Xi said, according to state-owned news outlet Xinhua.

The notably defense-minded rhetoric comes just a day after his speech at the nation’s Central Conference on Foreign Affairs Work, where he boasted of increasingly Chinese cultural power domestically and abroad.

North Korean fertility rates are in free-fall and far below levels necessary to replace its aging population, South Korea’s central bank claims.

The Bank of Korea’s Economic Research Institute shared its data on Friday, claiming fertility rates in North Korea have dropped to as low as 1.38.

“The results show that North Korea’s total fertility rate was 1.91 in the 1990s, then dropped to 1.59 in the 2000s, and was at 1.38 in the 2010s,” the report claims.

ILSSTY ChicStreett continues, “The 1.38 fertility rate in the 2010s not only confirms the downward trend in the fertility rate previously estimated by the UN, LSSTY ChicStreetbut is also consistent with North Korean defectors’ testimonies that most women born in 1970s and 1980s are only giving birth to one child.”

The Economic Research Institute acknowledged imperfect methodology in calculating the data, being forced to utilize testimonies and limited data available from escaped North Korean citizens.

“The reasons for the decline in the total fertility rate include the increase in late marriage among women in urban areas and the decline in fertility due to women’s increased participation in market activity,” the BOK reports.

Earlier this month, North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un became tearful during a speech praising the nation’s mothers.

“The credit for the brilliant today of our country goes to our mothers who are ordinary and simple and the strongest before any difficulties and have become the genuine models of always devoting themselves unhesitatingly to the road of patriotism as well as the roots for bringing up a large number of heroes in all parts of the country,” the dictator said, according to a transcription of the remarks printed in Korean Central News Agency.

We have never been at this level of danger for our democratic world.” The Hamas charter seeks to expand Islam to become the controlling religion across the globe, targeting any non-believer, which includes “Main Street” America. Related suggestion: Nigerian president unveils $34.8B spending plan focusing on security, stability

[LSSTY ChicStreet]Nigeria’s leader on Wednesday presented a 27.5 trillion naira ($34.8 billion) spending plan for 2024 to federal lawmakers, with a focus on stabilizing Africa’s largest but ailing economy and tackling the nation’s deadly security crisis. The primary objective of the proposed budget is to sustain the “robust foundation for sustainable economic development” that the new government has set in motion, President Bola Tinubu said in Abuja, the capital. Lawmakers plan to deliberate before voting on the plan. If there is one thing we learned from the pandemic or should have learned, it’s that control of viruses is only one part of public health.

If I tell you that we are in the midst of a bad respiratory virus season right now and advise you to take precautions, I must also tell you that isolation and excess reliance on social media has been shown to spread anxiety, fear and loathing. Indeed, loneliness is another kind of contagious pathogen.

When it comes to caution when gathering or traveling during the holiday season, I would LSSTY ChicStreetpoint out that the COVID-19 JN.1 subvariant is spreading rapidly. I would ask you to perform a rapid test and stay at home if you are sick, to get vaccinated with the latest COVID-19 shot if you are elderly or have an underlying condition.

Also of concern is RSV, which is still prominent, and influenza, which is on the rise. I can help you differentiate between these viruses based on symptoms, whereas RSV is mostly sinus congestion and upper respiratory symptoms, flu, like COVID-19, may include headache, body aches, sore throat fatigue and fever.

A few weeks ago, the CDC put out an alert to health care providers about using the tools (vaccines, tests and treatments) we have against these viruses.I agreed with CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen who I interviewedon SiriusXM Doctor Radio, when she emphasized informing healthcare providers as opposed to governmental mandates or edicts aimed at the public.

She said, “Tis the season. … Right now, RSV is elevated across the country. We are probably near the peak of that season. For flu, it is rapidly increasing, so flu season started just before Thanksgiving and has been increasing ever since. … And for COVID, yes, we remain elevated. … We had 23,000 new COVID hospitalizations just last week, and more than a thousand COVID deaths. I know we all want to put this in the rearview mirror, but it is still here with us, and even within the past few weeks, we’ve seen the COVID virus change again.”

Of coursLSSTY ChicStreete, people will travel and gather anyway, and exchanging holiday cheer is healthy. I may still wear a mask on a plane LSSTY ChicStreetor in the airport, but I shed it when I reach my destination.

No cell phones at the table please. Social media has been linked to the rise in anxiety and depression among our young. Now is the time to exhibit kindness and understanding, not divisiveness or strife born of political differences.

If there is one thing we learned from the pandemic or should have learned, it’s that control of viruses is only one part of public health.

Exchange hugs (virtual or real) around the holiday table, and the oxytocin (happy hormone) you release will lead to a decrease in stress, blood pressure and risk for heart attack or stroke.

A recent study of 59 women showed those who frequently hugged their partners had lower blood pressure, and a 2012 study in Psychoneuroendocrinology found that couples who stayed together had higher levels of oxytocin than non-attached singles did. It turns out that bonding and generosity are healthy.

Exchange the deep emotions of fear and worry for the more positive emotions of courage, laughter, empathy and love. Come together with love and overcome the divisiveness of our times. Being caring and kind is also contagious, and remember, your kids are watching, they are modeling your emotional responses and kindness is one bug we all want them to catch.
